COMESA launches a Networking Platform to empower women in Business

The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) launched a networking platform for women in business across the region. COMESA aims to increase the women’s participation in the industry. 

The platform, 50 Million African Women Speak (50MAWSP) is an information and networking hub for women in business. Mainly, it provides a one-stop shop for them to start, grow and scale up their businesses. Additionally, the platform helps them access financial and non-financial services.

The project is implemented by COMESA, the East African Community (EAC) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

“The project funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB). It enables women in 38 countries in the three regional blocs to find information on how to run businesses. Additionally, it helps them know, where to access financial services, training resources, and how to create business opportunities online.” COMESA.

COMESA launched “30 days of women in business” campaign set to run on social media and radio for one month. 

“I view this campaign as a catalyst in creating the much-needed push. This is to bring more of our women to connect, network and ultimately benefit from this platform,”Chileshe Mpundu Kapwepwe.

The platform additionally allows the women to engage in peer-to-peer learning, knowledge sharing and knowledge sharing.
